Vietnam like the other countries has many
traditional holidays but the New Year festival ( Tet Nguyen-Dan)
is the most famous and adorable. This tradition leads to the past
centuries, remains the people the cultural origins and connects
the different generations. The main meaning of the Tet party is
its family character, which help the people to save the history,
customs and culture of the nation. The link between generations
is preserves also because of the ritual related with the respect
of the ancestors. The ancestors unite the descendants and always
gather the family together near the fireplace, so the Tet party
is a good occasion to spend the time in the warm family
atmosphere. Even when the members of family are far away from
each other, they always find the way to congratulate the close
person and to show the love and attachment.
In the United
States the diaspora of Vietnamese people is quite big, so the
lunar new year is widely spread holiday in the USA. In California
state the Vietnamese children allow no to attend the school on
this day. There are also a clothes traditions on the Tet day.
Usually the Vietnamese women wear the red and yellow dresses and
the men wear black shirts and trousers. In the morning all the
family go the church together and than begins a carnival with
funny games and competitions. Another symbol of the Tet day is
the red envelopes with lucky money.
Usually when we talk
about Vietnam the most common association is the Vietnam War with
its cruel consequences and bad memories. But there are a lot of
other more pleasant moments connected with this country.
