In the midnight the members of the family gather
together in the room near the fireplace, sing and pray together,
meet a new year with best hopes and wish each other a lot of

decorate the house. In return the adults give the children money
in a little red bag or envelope. There is one more omen in
Vietnam about the first guest of the house. The characteristic of
the first guest is closely connected with the new years
predictions. If the visitor is young, handsome, successful, happy
and reach, the family will have a lot of happiness and good
fortune the next year. Usually the first guest is invited
specially. It cab be a friend of the family or a good
acquaintance. The whole Tet day is devoted to the visiting of
friends and close relatives. Negative conversations and gossips
during this day are forbidden.
